Man Detained for Drugs and Guns in SDNY Got 42 Months Now Co Defendant Detained

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 11 – Bryan Estevez and Terel Byers were arrested on drug and gun charged on December 20, 2023.

On January 5, 2024, detained, they appeared before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Victor Marrero. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the courtroom. There were also family members and supporters.

Judge Marrero asked about discovery and was told it will be produced within 60 days - the AUSA added the investigation had been of eight to nine months.

On October 4 the US Attorney's Office wrote in on Byers asking for at least 48 months - four years.

On October 11, Byers was sentenced to 42 months.

On November 1, Estevez got 144 months and later in the day, co-defendant Montedeoca was presented in SDNY Magistrates Court. Inner City Press was there, threadette:

AUSA says he was arrested in the Dominican Republic.

Defense says he was going to turn himself in...

Defense: Detention is not what it used to be

Judge Moses: Not what it was when you were an SDNY prosecutor? I order detention

The case is USA v. Estevez, et al., 1:23-cr-656 (Marrero)
