Ricardo
Quiroga Guzman
spoke for
himself,
saying he is
humiliated and
seeking mercy.
His lawyer
told Judge
Stein that his
client is a
certified
swimming
instructor,
helping the
disabled, but
needed money.
Hence the
attempted drug
deal.
Judge
Stein
sentenced
Guzman to 63
months, saying
it would have
been 84 but
for the time
in Colombian
prison,
extended due
to Colombian
authorities
neglecting to
transfer
Guzman to the
SDNY. He
imposed five
years
supervised
release,
noting
deportation.
The case is US v.
Guzman, 19-cr-715
(Stein)
