SDNY COURTHOUSE,
Jan 17 - In the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York,
a sentencing was held by Judge
Analisa Torres on Svetlana
Vaidotiene for her part in a
scheme to offer for sale
vehicles she did not, in fact,
own.
Inner City Press
went to cover the sentencing,
the only person in the
courtroom gallery.
Vaidotiene
was in MDC prison beige, with
two Marshals behind her. In
Russian, she offered thanks to
the MDC for allowing her to do
sports, and to read books in
Russian. She said there had
been no opportunity to learn
English in the MDC. She said
she is eager to return to
Lithuania including to,
ironically, the car she loves.
The
guidelines were 27 to 33
months, but Probation
recommended 18 months. The US
Attorney's Office followed
that: not less than 18.
Judge
Torres sentenced her to time
served - ten months already,
in Lithuania and the MDC. No
supervised release since she
will be deported.
The case is
US v. Vaidotiene,
21-cr-295
(Torres)
