Man With Bronx Case Pled Down to Petit Larceny Detained in SDNY Now Video Here

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 25 – A man charged in The Bronx on gun and stolen property charges, pled down to petit larceny, has been detained on a Violation of Supervised Release in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

On November 14 he appealed to the Part I Judge, Jesse M. Furman. Inner City Press was there.

A video of the underlying incident had been submitted, but is not in the public docket. Rather, the CJA lawyer Sabrina Shroff, fresh off a victory in DC in the sandwich throwing case, said that based on the Bronx DA's decision to plead down, her client should be released on bond.

Judge Furman noted that the burden is on the defendant in VOSR proceedings; he urged the Senior District Judge in the underlying case, which Inner City Press has covered since 2022, to hold an expedited hearing.

Why don't you keep the case? the CJA lawyer asked.

Judge Furman scheduled it before him on November 18, if Judge Victor Marrero does not decide otherwise.

Inner City Press is aware that Judge Marrero has a November 18, 3 pm hearing in the USA v. Gupta case of murder for hire for India. Judge Marrero is also the week's Part I Judge.

On November 17 Judge Furman docketed that he had communicated with Judge Marrero who would hold the November 18 hearing. Afterward Judge Marrero docketed: "The Government noted it had not yet received discovery in this matter from the Bronx District Attorney's office. The Government indicated that it would submit a proposed sealing order to the Court later today so that they could receive the discovery."

Well, Inner City Press has obtained video of the incident at issue, and other documents from the case - and is putting the video online on X here.

We'll have more on this.

The case is USA v. Danfakha, 1:20-cr-473 (Marrero)
