Two Men Known as Gordo and 28 Indicted in Drug Conspiracy Colon Wants Low Sentence

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Oct 4 –  In a two-person drugs and guns conspiracy indictment, Jhoan Vasquez on September 13, 2023 was brought before U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave. Inner City Press was there, the only media in the SDNY Mag court.

In the indictment, Vasquez' a/k/a is "28;" his co-defendant, still in the holding cell awaiting his Simpson Thatcher CJA lawyer, is called Gordo.

Vasquez was assigned another CJA lawyer and was detained on consent. The case is assigned to Judge Analisa Torres.

On June 27, without it being immediately docketed (for a month), Colon pled guilty before Magistrate Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky.

On July 18, Vasquez' or 28's lawyer wrote in that "communication have broken down" with his client and asking that another lawyer be assigned.

On July 31, Colon's guilty plea was accepted by Judge Torres and sentencing was set for October 21.

On October 4 Colon's lawyer wrote in asking for a "sentence substantially below the guidelines."

The case is US v. Colon, et al., 23-cr-472 (Torres / Cave)
