by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 24 – A man from Ecuador who was detained by ICE in 26 Federal Plaza on November 23 filed a habeas corpus petition that same day, through his "next friend, the mother of his child.

The case was assigned to U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Andrew L. Carter, who recently ordered the release by ICE of a blind man from Ecuador in a case Inner City Press first covered.

On this case, Judge Carter ordered that the petitioner not be removed from the United States and that the Government respond by December 10.

The case is Torres v. Francis, et al., 1:25-cv-9573 (Carter)
