SDNY MAG COURT
EXCLUSIVE, Jan 23 - In
the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, a detention or bond
proceeding was held by
Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave
on a man charged with 70,000
bags of fentanyl laced heroin.
He had a dozen supporters in
the courtroom (where Inner
City Press was the only other
civilian).

The
defendant Jovanny Cornielle
was initially detained on
consent on November 3, 2022,
without prejudice to a later
bail application. This was
that application, offering a
$200,000 bond, secured by a
home with over $100,000 in
equity - "unencumbered," his
CJA lawyer emphasized.
The
Assistant US Attorney showed
Judge Cave a photograph, and
after she returned from the
robing room, she thanks the
family for coming but
continued the defendant's
detention, on danger to the
community groups. It was and
is a presumption case.
The AUSA said he
blanked on the pre-trial
conference. The docket says it
is March 6 at 11 am before
District Judge Alvin K.
Hellerstein.
The case is US v.
Cornielle, 22-cr- 694
(Hellerstein / Cave)
