Exclusive, Nov
21 – A woman who
entered the US from the
Dominican Republic on a K1 or
fiancee visa, married then
divorced her U.S. husband, has
been detained in 26 Federal
Plaza since November 19.
On November
20 her Masbeth, Queens-based
lawyer filed a habeas corpus
petition in the U.S. District
Court for the Southern
District of New York, where
Inner City Press found
it.
The
petition says that "Petitioner
was taken into immigration
custody after being arrested
on November 19, 2025 when she
went with a friend, in the
friend's car, to a laundromat.
Federal officers suddenly
appeared, and the friend fled
the scene in the car with
Virginia in the car. The
pursuit started and both were
arrested."
She says
her detention is unlawful and
asks via emergency TRO that
detention be ended and she be
freed.
The case is
Almonte Rojas v. Genalo, et
al., 1:25-cv-9685 (Unassigned)
