COURTHOUSE,
Nov 26 – A 61-year-old man
from El Salvador who has lived
in the US for forty years had
a stroke in May 2025 and was
to have had an "acute infarct
in the left thalamus and
midbrain.
On June
11, 2025 he was arrested by
ICE and has been detained in
the Orange County Jail since.
On November 26 he filed a
habeas corpus petition in the
U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York
where Inner City Press found
it.
His lawyers
note that on June 18 and June
15 an immigration judge
noticed his competency issues
and scheduled a M-A-M hearing.
On the other hand, he pled
guilty to a trespass violation
of NY Pen. L. 140.05 - back in
1995.
The case is
Acosta v. Artita, et al.,
