Second Man From China Is Detained in 26 Fed Files Habeas With Same Church and Entry Port

by Matthew Russell Lee, Patreon Book Substack

SDNY COURTHOUSE, Nov 8 – A man from China who was detained by ICE on November 8 - a Saturday - and held in 26 Federal Plaza filed a habeas corpus petition the same day in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, where Inner City Press found it.

He entered the US on October 27, 2023 at or near Tecate, California. At his scheduled check-in at 26 Federal Plaza on November 8, he was detained and placed in removal proceedings.

The complaint says that in the interim, he lived at 682 60th Street, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11220 and "is employed at Athena's Nails located at 31-11 30th Ave, Astoria NY 11102, regularly attends services at The Grace of Christ Chinese Church and is a baptized Christian."

The petition is nearly identical to one filed the day before: also entry via Tacate, California a few days after, also attending The Grace of Christ Chinese Church." We aim to have more on this.

Both ask for an order "that petitioner shall not be transferred outside the New York [sic] while this habeas petition is pending."

This case is Huang v. Almodovar, 1:25-cv-9346 (Unassigned)

The previous day's near-identical habeas isLiang v. Almodovar, 1:25-cv-9322 (Unassigned)
