SDNY COURT, Dec 4
–
Venezuelan indicted
narco-trafficker Carlos Orense
Azocar was presented in
Magistrates Court in the U.S.
District Court for the
Southern District of New York
on June 23, 2023 and Inner
City Press was (the only
media) there.
Orense had
just been extradited in from
Italy and the indictment
against him unsealed.
The case was
wheeled out and assigned to
District Judge Vernon S.
Broderick.
On November 30,
more names on direct - and
3500 material on cross. Thread.
When the trial
resumed on December 4 in the
afternoon, Inner City Press
was there. Thread:
Cooperator Arvelaiz still on re-direct.
His lawyer is in the gallery, along with
Pollo's counsel and Inner City Press.
Jury entering! AUSA: Let's talk oil. Arvelaiz:
Orense had contracts with CITGO
Arvelaiz: Orense said he would get narco
dollars out of the US through CITGO, which was
run by Pedro Luis Martin.
AUSA: What did Pollo do? Arvelaiz: Helped us
be able to move with guns... Cliver Alcala
helped us with a landing strip
Arvelaiz was asked what would happen if
he returns to Venezuela. He replied that not
only Martin, but also El Pollo and Ortense -
both of them in jail - would have him killed.
Then, Re-cross:
Orense's lawyer: Didn't Orense also run an oil
company based in Rockefeller Center, and horse
breeding and showing in Venezuela?
Arlevauz: Yes. But I don't like horse shows.
Orense's lawyer: Did you see my client in
Miami in 2023? A: In the Mandarin
Orense's lawyer: You paid for an article in
Venezuela about your house getting shot up, to
apply for US asylum? Arvelaiz: That's a lie.
Orense's lawyer: In your guilty plea, didn't
you falsely says you graduated from
university? Arvelaiz: I didn't understand
Orense's lawyer: You stopped paying
restitution to your victims, and your boat
rental imcome is not being garnished, correct?
Arvelaiz: Yes, asi es. Orense's lawyer: Isn't
your brother Manuel Arvelaiz a singer in
Miami?
Arvelaiz: Yes. Q: Did you use his ID? A: No
