SDNY COURTHOUSE, Aug 29 – Inner City Press
may watch college football, but rarely publishes about
it.
Until now.
Days before today's Air Lingus Classic in
Dublin, TCU's Week Zero face off with Bill Belichick's
North Carolina squad, TCU banned the Fort Worth
Star-Telegram from entering to cover the
team. A spokesman for the Aer Lingus
Classic in Dublin confirmed the revocation of
credentials.
What is TCU teaching its students about
freedom of the press and the First Amendment? What it is
teaching the rest of the sports world?
The censorship springs from the
Star-Telegram's reporting of prospective star safety Jacob
Fields punching and reportedly knocking out cold teammate
Dozie Ezukanma, junior wide receiver. The Star-Telegram
quoted source that the outburst followed a pattern of
insults against Fields, seemingly about sexual
orientation.
What enraged TCU leadership however
was the report that head coach Sonny Dykes was aware of
the harassment and did nothing.
Instead of holding a press conference
and denying the report, truthfully or falsely, TCU took
the route of today's United Nations and all dictators.
They summarily banned the Star-Telegram.
So far, it seems, no litigation. But
there should be some.
Just as there should be against the UN, for
banning the Press even now in the run-up to their wan
Super Bowl, the UN General Assembly Week. Watch this site
