UN GATE, Nov 2 -
The UN Security Council
presidency for November is
being taken over by Sierra
Leone, whose mission in Turtle
Bay has been embroiled in
litigation in Federal
court for lack of repairs and
upkeep - while Inner City
Press remains banned from the
UN, despite its June 19, 2025
application.
On October
31 Inner City Press wrote to
the Sierra Leone mission
seeking access to the November
3 "press" conference in the UN
of Ambassador Michael
Imran Kanu in
order to ask
questions
about items of
the UNSC's
agenda - and
the mission's
contempt for
its neighbors.
No answer,
even as of
November 2 -
meanwhile UNSG
Antonio
Guterres'
spokesman
Stephane
Dujarric has
said Kanu's
"press"
conference is
only for those
allowed into
the building,
and from
Guterres,
this:
"The
Secretary-General
congratulated
H.E. Mr.
Julius Maada
Bio on Sierra
Leone assuming
the rotating
Presidency of
the Security
Council for
the month of
November. The
Secretary-General
and President
Bio discussed
the political
and security
situation in
West Africa
and the Sahel
region, with a
focus on Mali.
The
Secretary-General
reaffirmed the
UN's
commitment to
supporting the
region in
addressing the
security,
development
and
humanitarian
challenges it
is facing."
His UN Mission
was thrown out
of Mali.
Inner City
Press on June 19 applied
to the UN for access, as it
gives 100s, to cover the UNGA
week. Inner City Press has a
NYC Press Pass and writes
about the UN. From Sierra
Leone and its UN Mission,
nothing.
